Desert Town

This desert town thrived on Hollywood
stars retreating for years.
Hope’s giant blue mushroom stands on the
edge of the mountains.
Street shops honor a
varicose architecture.

The strong backdrop of rugged high peaks
extends a welcome invite.
I spend some days up close
and hugging the view, though
June sweat bars me behind
tall glass. Air Force One swings through town
for a round of golf.

New homes ignite the hilltops as
weather grows hotter.
The pope says it’s getting hotter.
My eyes onion with opinion.
