sit in rest in the dark
and tell me what you feel
you little seed of glory

momma will carry
you along, the long ride
you expect is coming

let your legs unravel
and your arms outfold
and tell me what
you’re thinking

is the night there
so uncomfortable
in the little house
where you’re growing

i look for the moment
i can see your face
though at first
you may look wrinkled

but have some time
to get used to me
and we will do
some talking

and then some day
it will be my turn
to feel the
greater darkness

you can ask the questions
i asked of you
when you were just

where you were
and what you were
before your
first morning

is where i’ll be
when you look for me
and you can do
the wondering
